Old Sacramento: Perched along the Sacramento River, this four-block-long historic district is filled with dozens of restaurants, gift shops, and saloons. During Memorial Day you can enjoy the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee - the world's largest jazz festival! California State Railroad Museum: Enjoy one of the finest and most visited interpretive museums of its kind in North America, displaying 21 restored locomotives and cars plus 46 exhibits. Open daily 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Adults $6, youths ages 6-17 $2, ages 5 and under free. Every weekend April-September, ride a 6 mile roundtrip steam locomotive on the Museum’s Sacramento Southern Railroad. Sacramento Zoo: It’s amazing what you can learn at the Sacramento Zoo! Discover educational messages about animals and their wild habitats. The Sacramento Zoo is dedicated to three distinct purposes – education, conservation and recreation. California State Capitol Museum: Take a tour of the beautiful historic building where California's governing bodies do their work. Films, hourly tours and exhibits open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Group tours require reservations. Free admission. Discovery Museum of Sacramento: Sacramento's only public planetarium and home of the Challenger Learning Center for space exploration. Learn about natural history, science and the stars! Open Tues.-Fri. noon-5 p.m.; Sat. and Sun. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Adults $5, seniors (60+) $4, youths 13-17 $4, children 4-12 $3, children 3 and younger admitted free. Spirit of Sacramento Ferry Rides: Explore the beauty of the Sacramento River aboard one of our magnificent Victorian Paddlewheelers, the Spirit of Sacramento or the Matthew McKinley.
